I'm thinking about getting a card for buying high value items in order to take advantage of the protection under section 75 which makes the card company refund money in the event of a purchase going wrong.

Does anyone know how long they are liable to compensate you. The reason I ask is I am thinking of buying electrical equipment off the net and if I have any warranty problems, will the card co pay out in the event of breakdown and me being unable to get it fixed :?:

I think the only way is to read all the terms & conditions of each credit cards as they do differ. My Barclaycard items protection is after £10 (don't know what the maximum is) but if you buy overseas and via the internet they may or may not pay out as they claim on a case-by-case basis.

It varies from company to company. Not much choice other than trawling through each company's website. Moneysupermarket's a good place to start though.

Time isn't the factor, it's the purchase you're covered for. If the goods don't arrive, or arrive broken, or are not as described, or are not of merchantable quality, or not fit for use, or not in new condition when sold as new, then you can claim.

No.
