I wonder if the thieves get embarassed if they find the card is rejected due to lack of funds?

That link from Mw Roofline made interesting reading because it's almost word for word identical with the warning I copied off our local forum! It looks like the scam was real enough in 2003 and the same warning has been going around ever since.
