Cross-Channel freight trade could drop by between 75% and 87% for six months in the event of a "no-deal" Brexit, according to a Border Force document obtained by Sky News.

The estimate comes as part of an internal assumption for no deal contingency plans.

A slide from an internal Government presentation marked "Official-Sensitive" and titled "Freight Traffic Contingency Assumptions" is a recent internal assessment much of which was omitted from public No Deal documentation.

Well if the s hit does hit the fan then the pound will tank. I might buy my holiday flights to the US early and get out there for a few months until this all settles down - that's if it does.
Great idea,,,stay out there..

So its all Project fear? Have you tried getting served in your local pub at Christmas? All the French have to do is minimal Customs checks and we are all Fuc**d
A.N.Other,, terrible analogy.

'Could be 100% of existing trade'. Well that’s.................no change then.

NEWSFLASH: Possible no change after Brexit. No story there then. In other news, several members of the popular forum DIYnot.com, were found crying in the street after predictions of the end of the world after Brexit failed to happen...
Good one,,watch out for the no deal brexit sky falling in...There will be no customs,,phone price hiking, etc ,because UK will just reciprocate all the hikes....Sorted,,,its not rocket science as the moaners like to make out

If you carry on long enough saying the pound will tank,,,you might end up correct...Whenever it does,,guarantee you will blame brexit

So what's your estimate of the financial losses to the UK, then? And how did you calculate it?

I couldnot give two hoots,,,just get Out of EU...are you listening!!!!!..for the nth time

Everyone IS wound up- Brexiteers or Remain.

Even if they weren't, we're still at the mercy of whichever French protest / mob decide to get all p!ssy.....

Like something as trivial as a wing mirror in lane3 causing miles of tailbacks.....

Good analogy.

However, is it really a good idea (in any situation, not just EU-related) to be so tightly wound up, that the slightest issue has disproportionately large consequences?

What do you propose? What you consider a slight issue?

All supply chains have some form of tolerance or slack.

It depends on rhe type of goods and industry but JIT main focus is not tying capital up and reducing costs.

I am aware of the above, but thanks for putting it clearly anyway.

Reducing costs? This is when your "externalities" comes to mind...

If you were aware then what do you propose?

Well tell me then what you think should happen? Should there be extra regulation enforcing minimum stocks or supplies of critical goods?

You are very fond of instructing people on here to answer your questions, aren't you? Bit of a modus operandi of yours.

Do you think Mercedes Benz, for example, are likely to totally cease production of the A class this afternoon, after a decision made this morning?

Edited liable to likely.
