Cruise ships

cruise in august they told us not to use our travel iron as it may blow a fuse on the ship .mmmmmmm,or could it be they wanted us to use their laundry service.Well i used the iron,my idoc and charged my phone and watched the tv all at once and nothing blew up.Try and make sure your not on the lower deck as the engine noise is horrendous when docking

Another area of noise is the doors which are used to load up supplies on the ship.
I've been on two cruises, the first a Carnival ship in the caribean, 70,000 tons and more like a floating hotel. Being American there was food 24 hours a day (it was said average weight gain was 7lbs a week) entertainment and what have you but alcohol was extra and expensive, most people smuggled on their own.As said very large and stable ship but it didn't really feel like a ship and the only staff we encountered were entertainers, waiters, stewards and bar staff very rarely did we see someone involved in actually running a ship.
The second cruise was a ship half the size run by Thomsons (topaz?)in the med and was better in my opionon. Cheap no label booze and it actually felt like a ship , a little roll and the noises sounded like the sea, and it also felt more homely.

Aww, just go to the bar for cocktails...that's shaken, not stirred.

I love that clip ...... especially the fat bloke in the striped top who keeps sliding back and forth like a big beach ball, and the lady that smacks face-on into one of the white columns.

There is another you-tube clip of the cargo hold on the same ship, and the way large things like a forklift are tossed about, and doors in the hull start leaking as they get bashed and go under water, is a bit worrying. The inquiry report is also on the net, and that's interesting reading

I've edited my post now to include the fork lift truck bit. I didn't realise it wasn't included originally.

The crew should've had all that stuff lashed down.. I wouldn't worry about a little water, though, these ships can take a lot onboard without issues, and have big, big bilge pumps.
