Sorry Mottie, I did ask you for the homophone, and the clue definitely referred to weaners, and not wieners.
A wiener is a type of frankfurter, which is where the hot-dog connection comes from.
And it is they (weaners = very young pigs, lambs etc) that could be made into hot-dogs. Although normally, of course, the meat going into hot-dogs is lower quality.
I don't know what Justin Passing was suggesting or whether he just erased his suggestion.
