Cutting back branches of tree

Hi

Had to cut branches of tree which had covered garden swing. (Son now 24, so using it to do push ups etc)

I wondered if I’d done irreversible damage to the tree(s)? No idea what they are, but they’ve gradually been spreading out laterally to find the light.

Thanks. Problem is er indoors. She’s paranoid I’ll destroy the trees and the sound barrier/privacy they offer from the busy main road beyond.
