Damp and Wood Treatment Company in Cambridgeshire

Hi guys,

A friend of mine is looking to purchase a house in Cottenham and the full survey has advised that specialist quotes should be obtained as there is evidence of woodworm, it does not mention if it is active or not, and damp to the front of the property. The report suggests the damp may stem from surface water from the adjacent pavement and road or the guttering.

We have tried to research local companies who may assist with this but i would appreciate any advise that you guys can offer please; many of the companies do not have online reviews and we do not know of anyone through personal recommendation.

Try www.property-care.org , which is the association for these companies, and who are also members of www.trustmark.org.uk the government backed scheme for vetted contractors

Or ask about approved contractors at the local council's trading standards dept

I would check further what this evidence is.on the wood-worm front

If it simply bore-holes and it is an old property then the holes may be decades old and have no relevance today and any treatment would not only be a waste of money but introduce some very persistant toxic chemicals into the domestic environment.

Do a search on this forum as there was a long and informative thread on this some time during the last 18 months

I think the Surveyor was probably a little evasive regarding the wood worm as the report just said signs of minor infestation.
