Wife is thinking of buying a newish Clio, I dont think DRL are a good idea, especially if they are dipped beam, ok if side lights.
Is there anyway to disable them on Renaults.

Depends on the year, but a compulsory item now. Don't know any way of disabling them without a major override.

What's the problem with them being on?

I’m assuming it is so that the car can be seen by others - car drivers, cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians etc when there is low light. Not exactly new either. I can remember in the early eighties, Volvo's used to have the sidelights permanently on when running.

Mmmm. If that were the reason then shouldn't the rear lights be on as well?

Do cyclists etc. run into the backs of cars in low light.

Yes, so why have the powers that be copied Volvo?

It was said at the time that Sweden has a lot of dark forest roads but that doesn't really make much sense either.

On my car the DRL turn off when i put the side lights on but the DLR are actually brighter than the sidelights. The whole idea about low light I am thinking low light as in - low in the sky and in your face so perhaps not as useful on the back because cars have break lights.

It was yet another stupid EU directive with unintended( not thought about ) consequences . And now makes the roads more dangerous for motorcyclists.

I don’t think I’ve put just my sidelights on since I moved away from driving cars with dynamo's and started driving cars with alternators! Why would you just have sidelights on - saving electricity? More so when your DRL's are brighter.

Yep I know DRL have done away with side lights but obviously you dont get them at the back so I just go to main.

Makes me laugh people who have retro fitted DRL - why, is it to make you car look younger than it is. You can tell them easily because they are on the **** and or 1 or 2 of the LEDs always seem to be out.
