We’ve had to have them recently and they take about 20 mins if that.
Just do online? And they send the results straight back
Just getting pre employment checks for a position at the council. Wondering the timescale on this.

Oh, ours were done by HR there and then, guess yours is different. Might be because you’re new starter?

Ask them then, I’m sure they got my result back either right away online, via post or both. Can’t remember now as it was a few weeks ago

I've been DBS checked since about 2005 I think because initially I worked in a school and then I was volunteering for the Canal and River Trust in an educational position. My present check runs out in 2024 although I have stopped volunteering so I wont be having another check done. My checks were done every four years and they took a couple of weeks to arrive by post. There are varying levels of checks so I assume there would be varying levels of delivery. My checks were "enhanced" checks.

Like above, the time of return is related to the level of the check.
I am surprised that the council isn't applying for the check on your behalf, might be worth checking that. They would normally want the copy to keep themselves, which wouldn't normally be the case if you were applying for the check.

Ours were basic checks
You can be taken on before the DBS check is completed, however, you will not be allowed to work alone in areas where you may possibly come into contact with children/vulnerable people.
The company may delay your start date as an alternative. It is usually the company who apply for the check after you supply accurate information on the details they ask you for.

Council tend to be very slow at stuff like this- up to 2 weeks. Amazon turned basic dbs checks round in 24 hrs..
