Debt scam letter

Is telling debt collectors to go away or peeking through your curtains at them - acknowledgement? Is simply answering the phone to those with an interest in recovering the money - acknowledgement?

Am I correct in saying that - if I were to run up large debts on a fist full of credit cards, just say prior to moving, and ignored all suspicious correspondence for six years - the debt is wiped?
It’s likely they would seek a judgement against you and then expedite it in the high court. Allowing a sheriff to be able to track you down and seize goods to the value.

And if there is no debt (and the claim is spurious), can the collectors keep - legally - "resetting the clock" to another 6 yrs?

i.e. a never-ending cycle of being drawn into fighting a (in reality, non-existent) claim?
It would be harassment. You could bring legal action against them.

In theory yes, but in todays times, almost impossible for you to achieve.

You would have to go off radar completely, again almost impossible.

Nah, they'll send enforcement papers to the old address and rely on you trying to get it set aside, providing the correct address.
either way they will have a valid judgement against you, that can be enforced.

The only people who get away with not paying are those who carefully ensure the contract is with a penniless entity (e.g. dodgy builders, car dealers etc who phoenix their company) or people who are genuinely penniless and not worth making bankrupt.

Ah ok. @Trazor

I know someone that was bankrupt and 10 years later after buying a house and getting married they came knocking. Lost the new house.
Guess loans ect are different. I just don't trust the system tbh.
Bankruptcy is different. There must have been more to this than a simple bankruptcy. The fact that he got married would have given his wife some ability to protect her house.
