Hi, looked at the manual, Four beeps usually indicates a RAM problem, maybe your ram is dislodged or faulty. Have you moved the computer or been inside it recently?

Could be one of two items normally.
As andrew said, four beeps indicate either a System Timer Failure or a problem with the stick of RAM in slot 1.

Check that your RAM sticks are firmly in place and the locks are locked.
If that does not cure it, swop over the RAM between slots 2 and 1. If that works, then possibly the stick that was oriuginally in slot 1 is duff.

If that all fails to sort it, then it could be the other, System Timer Failure.
Explanation: There is a problem with one or more of the timers used by the system to control functions on the motherboard.

Diagnosis: This is usually a motherboard failure.

Hoping it is the first.

hi andrew/dave thanks for the replies. i will take off the back and check for loose connections etc. i have also found another site that has the beep codes called www.bioscentral and this also recommends reseating the memory modules for most beep problems. its like the flashing warning lights on my boiler, when this is sorted out i will probably smile about it.
thanks for your help lads
