better when it was under the 'elu' guise.
Yeah they were really fine B&D bought them out in the '90's
:?:
nope - years before that mate
Maybe a crossed wire B&D bought Dewalt out in the 1960's and Elu out in the '90's (that is assuming the t'internet isn't lying)
I thought you were more or less on the money, too. I can remember the DW radial arm saws getting rebadged Elu for a while circa 1990 before they went yellow in the late 1990s and returned to being "deWalt". The main thing that happened was a lot of stuff going from being German or Swiss made to coming from Slovenia, Italy, and Mexico FFS!

Yeah resonates with me, there is talk of moving the production of dewalt back to the US (dont know whether thats a good or a bad thing). Interestingly (or not as the case maybe!) I wouldnt have looked at Stanley tools a few years back... but now they seem a bit btter.

I still rate german /swiss produced tools in a good light, but no one producer makes the best of everything.

Bosch blue (NOT green)
Makita
Dewalt
Milwaukee
Hilti
Wera
Stihl

Are some of the makes I use and respect (the list is in no way exhaustive, just based on what I've used)

Frankly I've had some great tools from the above manufacturers and also the odd pup!

Really? deWalt static machinery was always (in Europe at least) made in Italy and the range was always different to the USA. The sold off the US end of their radial arm saw business a few years back - it's now called The Original saw Co (I believe). Before they bought Elu I did have a few B&D Industrial tools. They were made all over the shop and I can recall a jigsaw from Germany, a sander from Canada, a drill from Italy and a router from the UK (Spennymoor).

I know what you mean about Stanley - they seem to be putting a bit more effort into getting their act in gears in the last 4 or 5 years (e.g. stuff like the "Sweetheart" premium planes).

Yep, even Milwaukee!

Oh I don't know - even Festool have made some lemons. I have to admit that I do love my plunge saw, but I'm less keen on the Rotex.......
