Another 'convenience' pushed out to customers by banks to reduce their own costs without any consideration of the risks.
I only use apple pay....
Once had a trip to Liverpool, the only place the wifes card was got out of her purse was when in 5guys where we spent trillions on a few burgers and the card was in sight at all times.
Got home and found the card had been copied at some point and about £70+ taken from the account.
Soon got it refunded via the bank, and a new card issued.
This will have been through someone grabbing the card details wirelessly.
I did, which is why I have the cards in my wallet screened with a foil around the outside pocket of my wallet, since I first received contactless cards.
Any conductive foil will do, such as cooking foil, or the metallized plastic, though they have now begun selling ready made RF screened wallets.
I can't be bothered with all that hassle.
