Hi all.

mice been cutting concrete this morning with a disc cutter, and it’s just given out on me, no power to it.

I used it from the extension cable, but also tried it from the mains after as a test, and it failed. Jack Hammer works through the mains so socket is okay.

Any idea what this problem could be please? Any help is appreciated!

thanks

I guess you've checked the connections in the plug and the fuse.
Depending how much use and abuse it had it could be brushes, wires snapped where they enter the plug or tool, after these check out ok your in repair territory if it's a tool worth the expense..do you have a multimeter and means of blowing dust out of it

Must be big mice in your neck of the woods! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

AS lostinthelight says, do a few basic checks like he has suggested. My first check would be the carbon brushes. Check them for length, that the move freely in the brush box and the area around the commutator is not clogged with carbon dust, (if it is you need to clean it out with an air-line or vacuum). If all is ok then cable check is the next step. First check the connections in the plug are secure and the fuse hasn't blown in the cutter and the extension, (though I suspect it's the cutter at fault). If connections are secure and fuse is ok then it's down to checking the cable. A multi-tester is invaluable for this but in the absence of one you could try rigging up a battery and torch bulb to check for continuity along each core of the cable. Another common area is the switch. Maybe a broken/loose cable or burnt contacts inside it.
Take each step one at a time and good luck.

Check fuse is sat tight and clean.
It's a heavy tool and cable can pull out tool or plug end so check power to tool.
Cheap cutters do burn out though. They get put under strain
