Discs not working in cd drive.

Hi, I bought a Dell laptop just over a year ago.
Now i don't plays discs on it i just use it for the internet.
Now I have bought a digi camera and need to insert the disc to install software.
The problem I'm having is the laptop won't recognise the cd. I have tried music / dvd and get the same message.
"please insert disc"
The laptop is out of warranty so can't contact Dell.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

time for a new cd drive
or download camera software.

Did you get a reinstall disc with the laptop, if so a reinstallation might reinstall the drivers for that drive.

It doesn't need any special drivers. If the device is present but it doesn't show a disk, either the drive is dirty or broken.

If you hear noise then it might the the ribbon that spins the drive. If there is no noise then the motor is burnt, ether way it need s a new Rom.

Make sure you try other CDs in it first.
