Hi.
Have recently had a new kitchen fitted and the new dishwasher makes a loud gurgling sound from sink/u bend when draining. Attached is a photo of the setup. Is there anything that can be done to stop this?
Thanks

That's normal when using a sink trap with an appliance drain connection, the outflow from the appliance is above the trap therefore all you are hearing is the water running into the trap and it's then amplified by the sink bowl. Was it a kitchen fitter/fitting company that installed everything?

The drain hose should really be routed up and through from the machine and then down into the trap and not under the unit and then up. That will encourage waste water that isn't cleared from the hose to back up and potentially waste water from the sink to run back down into the appliance.

Only way to stop the gurgling is don't us a appliance sink trap connection and change to the drain to a standpipe with a vented appliance connector.

Thanks very much for this. Really helpful. It was the kitchen company that fitted this so would have hoped they knew what they were doing.
Thanks again

They didn't really do it wrong, if you see what I mean as an appliance spigot on the sink trap is a newer approach but they could have explained that there would be a difference and that you would get draining noise from the sink, especially if there hadn't been one before. That's why they're kitchen fitters though and not plumbers.
