hello sorry to piggyback this thread but i am having a renovation in my home so i thought i'd future proof the electrics. The team who are carrying the job out have suggested to upgrade the fuseboard and add more sockets but im not sure if they are being for real or just trying to increase the £.

on my fuseboard i have got a 32 amp ring for the house and a separate 16a radial for the kitchen. is it okay if the two fuses are swapped so the kitchen can have a ring and no need to add more sockets and wires? the radial is cable is 4mm and it has a few spurs from sockets.

if i follow the advise from here above all i will need is a multimeter to check the continuity from the wires behind the socket is this right?

Ask what brand CU they will fit! That will give you an indication! Will it be all RCBO ?

Go on ebay, and see if you can find any MCB's that look like your current ones, and if they are available in 20A or 25A(rare)

If it's been wired in 4mm and 16A device that is a bit of an alarm bell. Could be many spurs.

I assume you were thinking of making the kitchen a ring, by running a new cable back to the CU, and then you would be able to utilise the 32A MCB.

If almost every kitchen cable is really 4mm, then it could be possible to just fit a 32A. Needs careful checking.

Maybe another 2.5mm cable is connected to the 16A MCB?

Will I be able to fit this myself?

I reached to a conclusion that I'll keep the board and wires but I'll have half the power hungry devices in the utility room and rest in kitchen. both on different circuit.

FWIW if you are refitting a kitchen completely then you should seriously consider adding a dedicated circuit for the kitchen sockets

And obviously a new CU with RCBOs

Yes but everything is working fine without any losses therefore I will change everything when the board gets obsolete. I did not have to change it I just got recommended to do. I got 5 sockets in the kitchen which shud b enough.

I just want to know how to confirm if a outlet is on a ring so I can swap.
That's not future proofing.

There should be a button on your screen named as "Attach files" by clicking on it you should be able to upload the consumer unit.

Have you got rewirable fuses?
