I'm always a little wary of people who dismiss information as nonsense without reference.
This quote is from the Worcester Bosch plume management kit MIs
"The terminal end can be positioned up to 45° either side of the central
position, for plume re-direction."
This one from a Corgi Technical Bulletin
"If the plume management kit separates the flue duct and air inlet duct then the position of the flue duct outlet shall remain in the same pressure zone as the air inlet (eg on the same face of a building)"
I do not know if these references are applicable here especially with the flue duct outlet terminating above the building but it would be worth investigating.
