hello
anyone
would i need to seal these walls,if so im not sure the best way to do it or wot to use ,can anyone help?

See your patient then  If it’s in a really bad state, whatever you do with it is only ever going to be a temporary solution; sealing it won’t do much as whatever you stick over the top will only be as good as the bond between the sealer & the plaster underneath. You need to find out what’s caused the problem, cure it, re-plaster or board it out & then re-decorate.

How old id the property? Does it have cavity or solid walls?

Hello richard

I am usually patient im just under a tight schedule,i apreciate your help though.

we have cavity walls with insulation, insulated about 7 months ago.

i think the house was built in the 30`s

Powdery plaster can be an indication it’s suffered (or it still suffering) damp/condensation; have you had any problems either before of since the cavity wall insulation was done? Are all the walls the same, is it just in the one bedroom or is there evidence of similar problems elsewhere in the property? Is it in any one location or has the plaster just deteriorated over the whole wall? Is it just the thin skim coat that's gone or is the base coat underneath affected as well?

Sometimes pictures can help to gauge the extent of a problem.

Once a plaster finish has cracked, blown & turned to dust, often the only solution is to remove it & start again. PVA will seal the dust & help bind the surface together but it will only be a temporary fix & how successful it is depends how bad the walls are. Covering problems up with wall paper will look OK for a while but won’t help much in the longer term; maybe hat’s what the previous owner did.

PVA  Zinsser water based sealer - costs more but I think it`s great.

you`re probably right - it`s dead throughout.

ok thanks for that,im sure its dead allover nige..
ive put on pva and slapped some ****e wall paper on it just to cover it up.
hell its only a spare room ,i dont have to sleep in it,the mother in law can,

thanks for the opinions guys
