I really don't know whether there is a supreme being or not. No one does. No one has any idea of what form that being takes if it exists, how it wishes to be interacted with by humans, or whether it is even aware of us.
Believe what you like, I really don't mind what people believe and I have nothing against anyone for their beliefs.
However once anyone starts sermonising, using terms like "The free truth" and "Forgive our sins" and quotations from their particular religion, when it's not in their place of worship, then I rapidly lose interest.
Lots of religious people of all faiths manage to hold their beliefs and live good lives without constantly going on about how their god will save everyone who believes in him.

I don't think you'd starve to death either mate. I think that once they knew you had anything at all they'd kill you, and your family as well, and take everything and anything they wanted. Making preparations and keeping what you have for yourself and your family is really just common sense.
One man's "desert" is another man's plenty. The indigenous Australians seem to manage OK in the desert there if they want to.

Africans are beyond even God's help. He's given up on them and is sending them this way for gullible Europeans to feed and clothe them.
