I can confirm that the kitchen section is not mine.

Next Q - is this Sparkybird's kitchen?

I can't believe how trusting people can be, but this should be a lesson, never ever assume a cable is dead without testing it, even if you wired it yourself and know its dead, always double check.

If you're working on different jobs at a time I would imagine it might be easy to forget that you did in fact connect to the consumer unit.

Thankfully this story had a happy ending and a lesson learnt. Now if you excuse me I a am just going to cut that gas pipe incomer as it is in the wrong place :) :D

Won't be a problem as cutting a copper pipe doesn't create sparks.

But I will smoke while I am doing it [I don't smoke] then I will pop out to the shops for a few hours and then finish the job off :). Of course it will be safe, because the gasman told me on the phone last night that he turned the gas off :D

reminds me of a poster from work about good manufacturing practice. The picture is nicely drawn and the caption reads:

'you mean to say you accidentally cut through the gas pipe which ignited when you cut through the electricity cable, but its ok because it got put out by the water pipe you managed to drill through?'
