Wait till Tony has one next door or close to his property or maybe a mud hut in the garden. Or a basement that undermines his foundations. What will he do? knock and ask politely "would you please stop that" No he would report them, as anybody else would.

I would only complain if;
any work compromised the structure of my property;
any work presented a real fire risk;
any work came physically over the boundary.

Aside from that, I'm not bothered about visual things.

@OP; are you an immediate neighbour of this development? If not, have either of the immediate neighbours complained; or are you a spokesperson for the XYZ Resident's Association? :)
 
It sounds like you don't own your property or care about your area. I do, and will not put up with the crappy, shoddy workmanship that turns a good house into a waste of space. Dodgy builders are like a plague, if you don't stop them, they spread.

With respect, it's not your house which has been extended; is not the owner best to judge if it is, in fact, a waste of space?
 
In the whole scheme of things, and considering the surrounding roof lines, is it really that bad?

So far as Building Regs is concerned, that's a private matter between the owner and their building control body (if they have one).

Planning regulations are there to benefit all of us

It means that we can live in some sort of ordered, agreeable surroundings, and walk down the road without having to be subjected to what looks like a third world shanty town free-for-all, where everyone does what they like.

We don't have to turn into a nation of snitches, but it is better to raise a question when something that does not look right, than to live an apathetic "it's nothing to do with me" life

As for building regs, they are not a private matter. They provide a set of standards to protect adjacent properties from poor building - spread of fire, subsidence, discharge of foul water, spread of dampness ......
 
I do own and i finished paying for it about ten years ago, not that it makes any difference. I do care about the area that I live and so do a lot of people. You obviously don't. Maybe you will one day, when your area resembles a Favella as in the pic.

Yes - I worded that incorrectly. I meant to say that, unlike planning applications where anyone can comment, B/Regs matters are dealt with between the owner and regulatory body.

As for the rest - live and let live, I say.

What was this house? Was it one of Palladio's villas in Vicenza? Was it one of the chateaux in the Loire valley? or perhaps one of Lutyens's marvellous country houses?
No - it was none of these. The most beautiful house in the world is that built by the owner's own hands and sweat, and in which he can take justifiable pride - presumably just like your mud hut, or those houses in the pic.

So - beauty is, indeed, in the eye of the beholder. :)

Personally, I think it looks appalling, and if someone put that up in my street I'd probably be having a look through planning approvals to see if it was legal or not.

The current roof line isn't exactly beautiful but I think it does make it even worse.

You don't necessarily need steels in a dormer. In this case the walls are provided with diaphragm action by the ply and timber beams can be designed for vertical loads.
Even if it is legal regarding planning, it still needs to comply with all relevant categories of the building regs.
