I wonder if anyone has experience of these cheap, door to door pallet delivery services, for moving stuff?

How do they get on if it's a house to house move of a pallet, where obvious there will be no fork truck?

When they turned up to collect it, they had a battery powered pallet lifter/mover on the truck. The truck had a tail lift.

Thanks both, that's what I hoped.

A couple more questions please - they don't say whether price includes VAT or not, in fact no mention of VAT at all.

It also mentions the need for the pallet to be filled, so it's suitable for stacking. It will be a mix of items, some delicate, can it be specified not to have anything stacked on top?

Does the lorry which collects, take it all the way, door to door, or do they transfer to other vehicles?

As it's mainly for commercial use, they won't show the prices with VAT, but you will need to add it.

That's odd, how on earth would you send something like a car engine? I had a flat pack sofa delivered on a pallet, all the wood at the bottom and all the cushions piled on top, it was over 2 metres tall!! No way to stack onto that! Try another courier (have you looked at Pall-Ex?)
or do they transfer to other vehicles?
With Pall-Ex it would go on at least three vehicles. Non-articulated HGV collects and takes it to a regional hub, overnight articulated HGV takes it the desalination's regional hub, then final non-articulated again to the destination.

Harry, depending on who you choose you may need to inform them that this is a kerbside collection and that you have no pallet truck. When we had a workshop we used to get deliveries on Palletways and Pink Link. They always used to come with a flat bed - no tail lift unless we specified it was required (generally only if a delivery/collection day coincided with a day when our FLT was being serviced or repaired)

BTW check your insurance. They normally only insure based on weight and the values are pretty low. So for a 40kg flat screen TV you'd get buttons from a claim for damage on standard RHA cover

They also like things to be on standard 1200 x 1200 Euro pallets. Not all of them can handle "double Euros" (2400 x 1200) or odd sized pallets. They all have height and weight restrictions in my experience

I once ordered something very small, I think it was a toilet roll holder. I came home to find a huge pallet on my driveway, wrapped in cling film, on top was my item in a jiffy bag, I picked it up and directly underneath was another label - a red faced driver came back the next day for his pallet full of floor tiles!

I used a man and van service to move a garden obelisk (267kg) after the removal company doing my house move failed to move it, twice.Just stipulated a pallet truck and a tail lift were required.
