"... detractors say Dorries was not fully involved in the business of parliament long before promising to quit. According to House of Commons records, she has not spoken in the Commons since July last year or worked on either a select committee or bill committee.

The records also show Dorries has voted on legislation on only four days in the past year, most recently in April. There are no sanctions for MPs, who earn a basic salary of £86,580, for not participating in the Commons."

Some say she should be chucked out.

"Last month, Flitwick town council in Mid Bedfordshire expressed its “concerns and frustration with the situation” and urged Dorries to “immediately vacate” the seat.

In an open letter, the council accused Dorries of focusing on her chat show on TV network TalkTV, forthcoming book and “political manoeuvres to embarrass the government for not appointing you to the House of Lords”, rather than representing constituents.

Noting that Dorries had not spoken in the Commons since July 2022, it added that she had failed to hold a surgery in the town since March 2020 and had not maintained a constituency office “for a considerable time”.

Is the answer "as often as their constituents wanted them to?"

Did Dorries stand for election on the promise that she would not do her job?
I think it is a labour MP who has dug out an old Parliamentary rule from1802? (I think) which would enable her to be kicked out, but if enforcing the rule to kick her out, they would also have to kick out Sinn Fein MPs.

What's she's actually like as a political person behind the scenes (competency wise) I have no idea, however whenever you see her on tv she oozes a vibe of incompetence. And many of the articles on her would appear to back this up.

Those who selected her, as well as those who voted her in are accountable too. Imho.
They had a chance to kick her out after her self promoting appearance in I’m a celebrity. Basically her brief flirtation with power was on the back of her undying loyalty to Borris, rather than any inherent ability at that level. Now bj has gone like many right ring brexxers, they find their natural power base is in the media.

Pretty sure their votes would have got Mays Brexit deal through at one stage. Appreciate the basis on which they were elected is not to participate in a foreign powers democracy but struggle to understand why they sit in the NI assembly

Blup
I belive there is no requierment to swear loyalty to the crown for the NI Assembly. Also their fierce opposition is to UK Parliament ruling over NI.

"...position on The House of Commons remained, however, due to their refusal to swear or affirm allegiance to a British monarch (which remains a prerequisite to taking a seat in Parliament). However, this refusal to take their seats has its roots in opposition to British rule in Ireland at the very base level."

Members of the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) do not swear an oath of allegiance.

Thanks didn’t appreciate that, so all those f***ing diehard no deal brexxer mp’s we’re doing it out if allegiance to this country?
F*** me
