Drip from ballcock

Hi
have a drip from the ballcock in the cistern, been told to change the washer? How what and where do i do this please, never done anything like this before.Thanks

after fitting the new one, you can, if you want, take the old one apart on the kitchen table, clean off the old limescale and corrosion, fit a new washer, cone and split-pin, and keep it as a spare for next time. This will take you much longer than swapping the valve. It will also expand the horizons of your mind so that you feel more comfortable if you ever need to do it again.

You can get a repair kit for slightly less than the cost of a new valve.
