Dripping mixer tap, ceramic cartridge

Thats where a working stopcock comes in handy so you could of taken the cartridge out and on the base would of been Brev stamped on the bottom.
Saves all this agro.

I can take the cartridges out but it pi22es all over the draining board. Its ok for long enough to swap them but not good enough to alter the pipework to fit a new mixer...easily..

If these bits are too dear I can see myself putting compression fittings on over a bucket and getting something decent. I remember when the ball valve on the cistern went a few years ago they called the plumber & his mate out and he had to change it 'live' or whatever the plumbing term is. The noise from the loft involved alot of splashing and shouting but he got it on eventually. I dont want to repeat the exercise behind the fitted cupboards.

The kitchen is assembled with these seamless epoxy joints that have to be broken apart to take the panels out. MFI seemed to think it was the last word in sophisticated cabinetry. They should've told the guy who fitted them over the stopcock.

Freezing kits work by extracting heat energy from the water in the pipe. If the water is being replenished (because its dripping) then so is the energy. Chances are the freezing kit won't keep up.

Simples.

Go here; http://www.shop.lunns.net/moben-brev-spares-58-c.asp They are expensive, just under £45 for the two all in. If they aren't the ones then look at the rest of the tap spares on this site you may find what you are looking for, on not!
Oh yeah, "other tap spares suppliers are available"
Once you've sorted the taps, change the head on the stopcock, it may just be dirty or need a washer if it's not a gate valve, or fit another valve after it, I assume it goes into copper after the lead?
Tip: run all the same (hot or cold) taps in the house full on while changing the cartridge, then the pressure will be reduced, put a towel in the sinks over the taps to stop them splashing everywhere.
Good luck and don't get too wet, and don't use your Mums best towels either!!! :p

ok, right at the last minute as I was about to order the bits, mum came and said she'd seen her sister's new kitchen tap, a single handle affair, and Could I Fit One Of Those because she thinks it would be great for arthritis sufferers.

So I ordered a Bristan Java, took it round, mum said she preferred the old tap because she has to 'put her head under it to wash her hair.' I told her to use the shower.

After wondering what to do, I ended up working the stopcock back and forth several times until eventually the water was reduced to a drip. Then the hot decided to pass water, so I had to do the same to that (gate valve in airing cupboard) several times. Sometimes it got worse, sometimes better, then on the last go it shut off to a dribble.

So in a nutshell I was able to fit the new mixer by cutting the old tails off and using compression fittings and surrounded by a towel.

I took one of these cartridges apart I live in China so thought I could get them easy. Turns out taps are so cheap they just look at you strange when you just want the part. The new tap was around 10 pounds. However to save the hassle of changing the whole thing I could not see much wrong with the old one. I got some toothpaste on Glass and rubbed the plastic disc on it for a few minutes to remove the stain and invisible groves causing the drip. Put it all together and its still working no drips.

I hope you checked that this new tap is suitable for her system's pressure. Doh! What am I saying. This could result in 8 more pages, going around in circles.

Also: do you still wash your hair in the scullery up north? ;)

well mum does but she isn't up north, we are in the west midlands.

She does have a stuart turner power shower in the bathroom but it is too wild for her

Yes the pressure was checked for compatability with the mixer.
