Earthing SWA

Just a quick question for part of my course which I'm doing.

If you were to spur a new distribution board off this ring main, the earthing would come from the SWA wouldn't it to the DB?

I am NOT doing any work, just theory work for college, and I have to research etc.
I think it comes from the SWA as there is no earth wire in there?

yes you would use the banjo ring and a nut and bolt to the chassis of the busbar chamber, then maybe as well an earth lead to a suitable earth point

As touched on above there would be other things to consider like isolation for the sub-main including overcurrent/short-circuit protection.
Also it is important where the earth is picked up from as although you may gland into the chamber it may be part of a removable panel and any short-circuit current would have to flow through the (sometimes missing/poorly fitted) fixing screws.

It hides the fact that you've only got a 25mm² rachet crimper and not a hex crimper?

I was taught at college that you where meant to strip 3" of insulation when lugging, and tape the exposed copper. They said this was because the busbar can run hotter than the cables rating.....what rating did the tape have

Got to love the colleges.
