Just out of interest, why do water pipes need to be earthed? Do they somehow generate an electrical current or is it in case a faulty electrical cable comes into contact? Just wondered that's all.
Earthing isn't really the main reason why we connect main equipotential bonding to all incoming services i.e. water pipes. The main purpose is to keep all exposed (such as earthed metallic electrical equipment) and extraneous (such as water pipes) at or as closed to as reasonable practicable the same potential during a fault lessening the risk to a person simultaneously coming into contact with them.
