Yep, its looped in and out of your mainfuse (thats the big black box). They are concentric cables (which look a little like co-axial cable for your aerial, the live is surrounded by the neutral and earth - fun fact for you!). One will go to the street, or the other next door. The other will go to your lovely neighbours.

This really is true - saw a van on the North Circular once where one of the letters had fallen off.

To this day Mrs Sheds & I still refer to the company as Balfour Betty....

NEDL = north east distribution

YEDL = Yorkshire electric distribution

as far as i know.

CE electric = both the above.

Balfour may do subcontract work perhaps under a joint venture?
