New solenoid arrived and we are back in business! Not managed to perform an autopsy yet but I don't believe it was the coil at fault since sticking a big magnet to the valve made no difference, it's as if it couldn't fully open. £18 including next day delivery is much better than replacing the entire thing so very happy. Now my fridge freezer is on the blink! The joys!
