Electric shower woes

New switch. Tarnished cables? Na.

Removing the switch, tightening the terminals and jiggling it all around would of jiggled the switches inards enough to get the red light back on, but as soon as load was pulled, switch contacts went dodgy again.

Change switch. Make sure your terminals are tight.

You may, of course, well be right - although I've seen no mention of removing the switch or jiggling it all around, merely tightening the screws (which presumably were previously lose) - and, if you're right, that would require that, for some reason, the switch contacts suddenly went dodgy soon after the MCB was (slightly) upgraded.

Or sustained current flowed, with loose connections in switch....

To tighten screws, we would if removed switch, and no doubt pulled and twisted to get screwdriver in terminals.

It's a dodgy switch. Mtarnished wires would not prevent 40amp flowing!
