The continental systems I've looked at all had RCDs, most UK houses don't (mine has).
German installations I thought looked quite neat, French ones I thought untidy.
No one else seems to use Ring Mains, which I think are a wonderful invention (so is the fused plug, although now oversized and could do with modernising).
If it was me, I'd feel happier with new earth bonding, add pull-cord, remove sockets in bathrooms. If you want a washing machine (or a toaster!) in the bathroom use whatever is their equivalent of a FCU.
It's really just a matter of what you're used to.
