Hi,

I have some ELV downlighters fitted in a bedroom, they are switched by a dimmer. When the lights are turned on there is a strange noise ( like a slow whistle for want of a better phrase). When the lights are off there is also a faint noise although it doesn't appear to be coming from the dimmer. I have checked the downlights are they are each on individual transformers (20-60 va). The dimmer is a remote control type and is suitable for dimming low energy lighting.

Has anyone experienced this problem before and is it more likely to be a problem with an individual transformer or the dimmer unit.

Thanks

Is the dimmer has the correct load capacity? do not forget that for transformered lights you need about 1.8 factor...

Agree with Adam, just because the dimmer is suitable for use with inductive loads it does not mean the transformers in the fixtures are suitable for dimming.
