Have triggered this unintentionally a few times now. I have no idea how. I managed previously to kill the calls before they were connected. This morning, I didn't, apologised profusely and put the phone down. Then I got up and went for a slash. When I got back, there was a voicemail and a text message waiting for me.

I just don't understand how you can trigger an emergency call that easily by accident.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I'm going to try and disable it. If not, I'm going to ditch the phone.

You think there would be a "double knock" set up so that it wasn't possible to call by accident?

On some phones, they can be setup to call emergency services if, for example, you drop the phone as it thinks you have been in a car or motorcycle accident. My iPhone does that and it will even contact the emergency services by satellite giving my location if there is no mobile signal.

A few years ago on a motorcycling trip in Spain, one of our group hit a tree stump in a forest and fell off. As we were helping him up, we heard a voice coming from his bike in Spanish. Luckily we had a Spanish speaking guide and he talked to them in Spanish. He said it was the emergency services asking if assistance was needed. If they had received no reply, they would have attended the scene automatically - to the exact location in the middle of a forest. It’s clever what they can do these days.

My Nokia XR20 has a programmable emergency button.

Well, I knew that would be an issue, so when I got the phone, I programmed the button to do non-emergency stuff. But there is an SOS button that appears if you press and hold the power key. I just followed instructions to get rid of this but it still appears...

Just go into your 'Safety & Emergency' settings and change it as necessary, it will also say what the button sequence is to phone SOS automatically.

Thank you.

I have now done that. The SOS button is turned off and just in case, I have set the number to be rung as our landline.
