on top of the Celtic Manor Golf Resort hotel is the BIGGEST Welsh national flag you have ever seen.

I've stayed there, weird place (built into the side of a hill), but very nice.

Luckily it seems the George Cross and Union Flag have been reclaimed from the nationalist factions, thanks to Jubilee and (I suspect more significantly) international sporting events.

When did the flags get lost anyway? Certainly in the 60s it was still seen as very cool, from pictures I have seen of Union Flag clothing. In the 80s I saw boxer shorts in the Union Flag design (so perhaps that was the beginning of the decline, wear it but keep it hidden!).

When I get a new car, I will be specifying George Cross numberplates, I'm not displaying an EU flag until it is an integrated nation with no back-stabbing and obvious advantages to England/UK. I don't recall anyone displaying UN flags.

Now now, I wouldn't agree with that... 200 years ago the British government was doing everything it could to ensure we wouldn't be under the rule of a non-elected European government

Everyone seems to be missing the point here, you beat your chests declaring England as Your country and the sole ownership of it, whereas that is completely misguided, this is a multicultural country get used to it as it isn't gonna change.
I've never understood the mentality of those that push patriotism to the extreme, as if the world owes them their plot of land? This planet is for all to share.

British Celts didn't like the original Viky bu##ers, so they hired a gang from jerry land out of tribes of Angles and Saxons ... They came and kicked the c rap outa the Vikings, who bu##ered off. Then promptly the jerries thumped their hosts, the old Celts .. who, in turn also bu##ered off to Ireland,wales, Jockland and france.. we all know where that lead.

This green and not so pleasant place became Angle-land wonder if that was right ? .. Angle-Land slowly became England and the old Jerry mercenaries evolved into English peeps speaking oldy Germ ... which itself evolved to the language we know and mangle today
Them Normans, was Vikings .. returning in disguise as Frenchies .. around 1066 ... So we had to endure Frog spawn for several hundred years !!
Still, they continued to speak 'old' English down on the varm, whilst the fops larned French..

How do you come to that remark??? i like everyone else has to live but i dont go around saying this country is mine and mine only so for you to come out with that remark i'd say it is you that is the one who is misguided. look up hypocrite also and you'll see you got that wrong too

I very nearly moved to Wales some years back. I had an interview in Cardiff and was offered the job. Had handed my , then current, employees, a months notice. Had my place in Essex on the market and signed a lease agreement on a flat in Cardiff.

Out of the blue, 3 weeks later, I got a phone call appologising that they have to re-advertise the position as they have decided to find someone "local". I then mentioned, "well now I am local as I now have a Cardiff address". "No, sorry, we mean someone Welsh".

I was lucky that my employers allowed me to retract my notice (with less than a week left to my leaving them). The Welsh letting agency, however, insisted on keeping one months rent on the flat (that I never moved into).

I suppose that's where we get the expression to Welsh on a deal eh?

Now what would happen to a London Employer that decided he wanted someone English!
