expanding foam

A corgi inspector tried to say I shouldn't use it ( the Fireproof one)

I said I thought it was fine because it seals, sticks and is easy to remove. He said he wanted it removed and I refused. I said I wanted a written explanation which I would challenge. I also mentioned that I 've done a Metallurgy and Materials Science hons degree.

Needless to say it's still there 10 years later.

What neither of us knew then was that what CAN happen is excess foam can find its way inside the flue through the screw holes, which I've seen once. That would probably only be possible with the disposable type not the one you put in your own gun. The former expands much more.

Bottom line is that CORGI/GSR were/are NOT entitled to make rules up as they go along, and its YOU that's responsible.

They can't tell me why your not allowed to us it. I find it a lot better than just cement because it holds the flue tight and prevents movement.
Expanding foam must be ok on metal because it is stated on the tin and also heat

they just make things up as they go along. they should go for unregestered engineers

Never been pulled, often used it and don't see a problem, although I always make sure it's the fireproof stuff just in case

Why on earth does it need to be fireproof? I wouldn't use it simply cos it looks tacky (IMO)

Just so they can't say you haven't got a fire-resistant material filling the gap. I don't just use foam incidentally, I do bother to cut it back and mortar/fill in over the top to cover it up once it's set. The foam is just there to ensure a good fill in the hole

i cut the foam back and use mortor. it comes to something when they pick faults with this don't you aggree.

another 1 was a ncs on a gas pipe that was not sleeved.
i said i only have to alter AR --- ID or 2NCS on flues and ventilations that already exist. otherwise just write on paperwork and cape off

An un-sleeved gas pipe passing through a cavity wall is NCS
BUT only if it passes through the cavity by the shortest route! ;)
