Hi

I have a Veritas alarm system, pretty old model.

I need to extend the wire that goes to one of the sensors. Any tips, steps etc much appreciated.

Thanks

how far does it need extending and is there any spare cable along the cable route.

for example some when running cables leave some spare, unfortunately some more than others, and some leave barely enough to get to the device as is.

Is the sensor on its own or in series with two sensors on the zone?

a complete run is better than a join.
There are various techniques to joining cables and the junction box is probably the simplest.
As it wont be a graded install there will be no need for the join to be tampered if in a junction box.

I need to add a good few metres to the run. The sensor is on its own I think, as far as I can tell it's just one wire that goes from the cp to the sensor. But now that you mention it I should see whether anything goes out from the sensor onwards I suppose.

I am a newbie, like to get hands dirty but have never messed with alarm box!

What is a junction box? Also if I was doing a complete new run, what sort of wire do I need to buy please?

Thanks

how long a run do think you need?
you need something with that will do the number of cores you have in use.

8 core alarm cable should be plenty, as for costs depends on CCA or Copper, shielded or not and the sheath make up.

I have some 8 core CCA that is laying around got for an emergency situation one Saturday morning a few years ago miles away from base and need some cable and all they had was sfx 100m CCA probably 80m plus on it will see how much it would be for postage. pm postcode and I will let you know weight wise its about 1.5kg.

I will measure up and let you know.
How do I tell how many cores I have in use?
Postcode sk4. Royal mail tracked 48 is approx £3.50
Thanks

sent a pm with some details and costs no obligation even put in a junction box.

A pir is unlikely to have more than 6 on a Veritas, 2 for power, 2 for the tamper and two for the alarm, if its joined to another then possibly a FTA (first to alarm) indicator if pir capable but rarely. so 8 core should be enough and a spare, if the veritas is using resistors (certain models would be capable you would need two less cores so more spares).
SK4 (Aberdeen???? lol)
