Hi.

At my dads there is a socket that was fitted and working.
We had to take socket off plasterboard and plaster the wall, now the wiring is slightly short. I can’t see where the wiring comes from into the socket or goes to from the the socket ( 2 cables so it’s on the ring). Can it be extended with 1 2.5 cable and a block or is that illegal.
Thank you.

Could you post some pictures?
Not at my dads until Thursday.
It’s just a double socket with 2 cables. 6 wires. 2 brown 2 green 2 blue.
Just a bit short now to reach the socket because of width of plasterboard.

Yes.

Just put the three wires of each colour in a block and connect the other end of the new bit of cable to the socket.
That was my plan but I wanted to check it was legal before doing it.

Yes it's fine as long as done with decent 30A choc bloc or blue crimps with proper crimper.

Wouldn't use crimps as you need to be able to separate the wires of the ring for later testing

My Bad description, sorry.
I personally would use crimps but extend each of the 6 wires individually.

If using crimps would you twist, solder and use heat shrink cover ?

Using Blue crimps:
https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/CTBUTTslashB.html behind an accessory will simply be strip to the correct length, insert into the connector and crimp with one of these:

and that's it.

But that's an expensive solution if it's only going to be used for one job when this:

or these:

will do the job well
