External boiler losing pressure

Hi
I have an issue with my boiler. It loses pressure rapidly in the heating system. By rapid I mean from 1 bar to 0 in an hour often. Sometimes it will go much longer.

It is a Grant combi with frost protection as it is external.

This problem has started to occur since the weather got colder, but this could be a coincidence.

I have tried many tests

With the boiler physically on but timer/programmer set to not actually switch the heating or hot water on the pressure drops, especially overnight (my thoughts are because it is colder and the frost protection is cutting in, my guess 6deg in day 3 at night currently) but may be wrong) .

When heating is on in the evening it sometimes drops sometimes does not, seems to be worse when colder.

With the boiler switched off, and the system pressured, even 2 bar it does not appear to lose any water at all. Tested at this extra pressure for 10 hours.

In last 2 week it has only once gone 24 hours without losing all pressure, many times I have had to top up 4 times per day.

There is no trace of water in floor, I know where the runs of pipe are and cannot spot a thing. the floor is concrete and the pipes are pretty close to the surface. We have started to dig up some of the pipes and found nothing but I don't want to dig all of the concrete up if I can help it. I am assuming that some of the water would be apparent.

An engineer came out and spent 1.5 hours but problem did not occur while he was here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks I think I checked the right area.

Under Boiler & Central Heating FAQs I looked at the section, BOILER PRESSURE PROBLEMS. That didn't help me, maybe I am in the wromg section.

By the way I should have said this is an oil boiler and the DHW pump was replaced the day it went wrong, but the engineer returned and nothing wrong with new pump.

I think the reverse is true, the pressure dropped causing the pump to fail.
