:( A structual survey has been carried out on my property and the report stated that the raised tie trusses were not sufficient as they have got timber added on top of them to increase the height of the roof. The roof was done before we bought the property and has been up for approx 20 years and has had no noticiable problems. Is the engineer correct? And any advice on my next steps.

In what way has timber been added to the roof?

It is not uncommon for a roof to be counter-battened and lathed for instance.

Timber battens approx 2 by 2 inches added to the top of each truss, so the roof has gained 2 inches in height. Then you have got the roofing battens running 90 degrees from the added timber with the felt and slates attached.
Cheers

Just adding 50x50 battens in that way will make no difference whatsoever. Why was the roof being inspected? If it was on behalf of a buyer are you sure it was an engineer and not just a valuer. (you have to be careful with valuers - some of them don't know their arses from their elbows)
