Fair price for work or a rip off

All BG have to do is say that its a part no longer available at THEIR stores.

The Response HE is apparently no longer available from Ideal now.

Tony

A common misconception Tony but not accurate, they try the national distribution centre which is bg and the largest boiler parts warehouse in europe I believe, all the major nation suppliers and then the list of independent specialists.

I rang ideal a couple of years back and they said the response hx was down to around 80 held in stock with no more being manufactured.

and not only that but there are two types of response h/e, which one were you looking for? you can bet one went NLA long before the other.

I've seen some of their more recent quotes-£2000 odd to supply a Baxi 105-which are frankly unbelievable.

how recent? as far as i know BG haven't specced a baxi in the last ten years

Last July.

Cream carpets throughout though.

I ended up replacing all of the rads which were full of black magnatite (not bad for a Saturday morning BTW) sludge.

hmm, interesting, i shall enquire with the local sales dodger, as far as i knew we didnt sell baxi's as they are clearly c.rap

I have always been under the impression that they always pushed WB but some of the quotes I've seen recently had a range of different boilers.

Certainly the Baxi (maybe the customer asked for that ,I don't know) and Valliants and of course WB.

Baxi are on sales list in my area,,,,, As for comments about fixed price repairs being subsidised by high cost of heating installs , No this doesn`t happen as basically it is 2 separate divisions under the same umbrella and the money does not get mixed up.

As Namsag states, its two seperate units. Same staff, same pay, but engineers treated totally differently. Friends on service work all hours/weekends early/late and treated like sh#t. Friends on installs, bowl up do 3/4 days work, and bugger off home, some strange job & go arrangement. Do not think it encourages a quality job/install.
As for the PCB issue, do they (BG) still use the re-con units?

Regarding the Respose HX, a customer of mine had BG fit a new HX in his Response 120 just before Christmas... They came to fix a new leak leak yesterday

Any one know what the score is with the WB boilers fitted by BG, they have been renamed as BGs own boiler so are there any subtle differences between a genuine Worcester and a BG Worcester?

Not sure but I think its a plastic badge BritishGas or ScotishGas that clips in the front.

LOL Ok Ok What I meant is will all WB parts fit or are there any parts that are unique to these boilers (Other than the plastic badge on the front)

Their work will be to a good standard and will comply with every regulation.

What colour is the sky on your planet?

LOL I never diss my competitors (Too much) I'll let them do it for themselves.. ;)

God knows what colour my sky is...I'm totally colourblind... Makes wiring controls quite exciting

Just watched Bourne Ultimatum, very good to.
Must find out how to make nice quote boxs
And all the bits inside are all std WB, BG does not have that much clout with the makers. Its a typical case of badge engineering and volume in numbers. The profit WB make on each unit is minimal, but shift enough and it hads up.

nope, different staff, different pay and all treated like ****e.

Friends on service work all hours/weekends early/late and treated like sh#t.

obviously im not your friend but i work bugger all hours for far more basic. i get treated like ****e but ignore most of it.

Friends on installs, bowl up do 3/4 days work, and b*****r off home, some strange job & go arrangement. Do not think it encourages a quality job/install.

they have set hours to do and will let the office know how many hours a week they want to do. the office monkeys will plan jobs accordingly. if they finish said jobs early they go home and still get paid for the amount of work they asked for. it certainly doesnt encourage quality.

Used to hate getting stuck on heating team when one was on holiday or as punishment when an apprentice. Knocking your pan in for same money and full day at work instead of the 2 o`clock finish..
They should put all the new starters with a team for a month and then they will realise how easy the service side is.

I guess that it is a matter of what you like doing.. Some folk prefer to do service and repair, others prefer to fit new boilers and systems... Personally I love service and repair and hate fitting systems but unfortunately at the moment fitting systems is what folk want and what pays the bills, I have found a guy who loves pilling up floors and making good so we have gotten our heads together..
