I've got 150mm boards that I am using to clad a shed. I plan to sue 40mm galvanised nails but have seen varying methods for where they should be nailed.
I plan to have a 25mm overlap with the boards and wanted to check if it is okay to nail them at the top of the board, in the section that will be hidden by the overlapping board.

I would welcome your advice on this.

If you've got a 25mm overlap nail through the bottom of the overlapping board so it just misses the top of the underlying one , 28mm
So that I have this clear in my head, these nails would then (only just) be hidden by the overlapping board. Is that right?

No they wouldn't be hidden , hidden fixing wouldn't be practical with exposure to elements and as previous post, use SS nails

ah, just seen that 28mm. So a few mm above the overlap. As you say, the nails will then be visible

UPDATE: made good progress with this today.

The space at the top is almost 150mm this means that a single board is not enough. I think of a few ways to approach this but wanted to ask for your advice on how to finish this off.

Thanks again.

More overlap or rip the thin edge down on the last one, have you got enough nails in the bottom so the don't peel up in the sun
I could cut the piece above the doors so it goes down the side of the door and overlaps a bit more on the bottom board. I may then be able to get 2 full pieces above that.

The boards have 3 nails each and they go in just above the top of the bottom board.

Cutting around the door would keep your visible board width even until very top ones. Directly above the door the board would be a little thinner where is cut around it so may need something under and over the door frame to shed water but you will be in a better position to see if needed , whats the distance between nails

Why are there no vertical battens behind the featheredge boards? You should have a vented cladding, a must with timber cladding for longevity and keeping the inside dry.

The distance between the nails is approximately 40cm. That’s where the studs are.

Is there something I can tuck under the board above the door and have it coming out slightly as a drip edge above the door?

Is there anything I can tuck under the feather edge board and have hanging over the door batten as a drip edge?
