We live in a semi detached house. My neighbour has decided that she would like to feed the "birds" ie pigeons, crows etc etc along with foxes, and every other thing that moves. The pigeons keep sitting on our rear bay windows and also on the flat roof. is the anything I can do to deter them? they crap everywhere along with the fox, I dont mind bird feeding i.e sparrows etc. but pigeons are just flying rats. I spoke to the council who said they cant do anything apart from Rats. do the optical bird gels work?

thanks

A friend has two feeders like this one

Small birds to get into the outer cage to eat the nuts but pigeons are too large to get into the outer cage.

Trouble is she likes feeding the birds ie the pigeons, does not differentiate between them and the small birds.

I’ve repaired a few of these, they have a simple electronic timer which energises a car ignition coil and spark plug (early ones, they may have changed now).
When you are waiting for the bloody thing to go off during testing it’s an excellent cure for constipation!

The rat angle is the only one you can pursue, but don't know how you'd be able to prove to anybody's satisfaction that she's causing a nuisance unless she's being negligent.
I go to great lengths to avoid feeding rats when feeding the birds, but the smaller birds still manage to scatter some seed on the ground.

Get a pest person in to shoot all the pigeons.
They will come back due to the food source though!

Buy an air rifle (only for the pigeons)

Throw all you food waste over the fence at rear, the wildlife will soon learn to visit your neighbour instead of you.

I try to discourage folk from putting out seeds for the birds at this time of year as there's plenty of insects around for them, and they'll help control the bugs that feed on your veggies...planting sunflowers and fennel, for instance, will give them seeds at this time of year while bugs will always be attracted to plants and flowers. Finches and Tits will find bug eggs underneath leaves, too, so you only need to put out seed for them in Winter when food is hard er to find.

Goddamn Jackdaws have taken to snacking on my apples, though, so if anyone has a proven method for persuading them to bugg'r off i'd appreciate it.
