My fence was a victim of storm Eowyn. 6 foot hit & miss.

When it comes to replacing, is my logic correct that hit & miss is probably the best happy medium in terms of ensuring a good degree of privacy whilst still allowing some wind through thus lessening overall pressure on the fence?

The fence isn't in a very exposed area, however neither is it totally protected from the wind, so it needs to be capable of withstanding higher winds as and when they occur.

What was the failure? Posts ripped out of ground? Posts broken? Posts rotten? Boards broken? Clips or nails torn out? Rusted metalwork broke?

Existing fence was getting on age wise, posts not in great condition, that would definitely have been the weak point. However to ensure longevity with the replacement fence, I'd rather not go for something fully covered if it's likely to lead to issues in a shorter timeframe.

Without knowing what the failure was, we don't know how to reduce the risk of a recurrence.
