Might be a stupid question but how do you make sure a line ( for a fence) is at right angles to the house?
Thanks
Bill

your fence should go on the boundary, which is not necessarily at 90 degrees.

Yes . My house is on a slight bend so my back fence is considerably wider than the frontage
Use a string line and assume the existing posts are correct or consult plans

Thanks for the replies I know that the fence has to be at right angles to the house, as there isn't any bend on the property, I'm not sure how the 345 method will help as I am trying to run a line from the house to the top of a60 foot garden so not sure how to use this method for that, so if anyone else can suggest a way I would appreciate it
Thanks
Bill

Scale it up do it in metres or any unit of measurement it is the ratio that works with any unit. Once you have a long line, eyball it with a long string from the bottom of the garden along the line

You could do the 345 by doubling each measurement 3 4 5/6 8 10/ 12 16 20
Once you have three poles in line you should be able to get a sighting to the end.
Run a string and you have a datum

Ok now I get it, and I will give it a go thanks so much for the help
