The total costs for joining Fensa are much more than the £200 quoted

Thank you for the insight of building regs.
The £200 to join Fensa was quoted by a window company with Fensa so naturaly i assumed there was no reaosn for it to be wrong.

I am having an inspection from the solicitors window specialist and it seems i have a very good case.
just wanted to add this for anyone who is having problems, I always thought i couldnt take on a company, feel a bit like the littleman.
But it looks like sometimes it can pay off.

Someone might argue it's not exactly wrong since the Initial Admin Fee is £100 and the annual Fee is £100.

But the complete shopping list for the non-VAT registered joiner looks more like this:

Initial Admin Fee £117.50
Annual Registration Fee £117.50
Vetting fee £235.00
Building Regs Documents £20
Database Transaction Charge £1.76 per installation
Inspection Charge £117.50 per inspection. You get at least 2 inspections per year, possibly more at their discretion.
Also, one is obliged to carry levels of insurance and offer warranties that may not be appropriate. And then there is is all the time and trouble it takes at the office desk instead of in the workshop.

So for a sole-trading joiner it all works out prohibitively expensive. Anyone think the Window Tax was abolished in the 19th century?

FENSA may seem expensive but they are not the only way to self certify your work. You can obtain Building Control Certificates from BSI & Certass and could save a great deal of money, as this area has become quite competitive since additional licences were provided by the Department for Communities and Local Government.
