I have replaced some ugly old light switches in our house with some new ones which are smaller. Unfortunately we now have a horrible gap of between 5-10mm all around the light switch which the old ones covered.

What's the best/easiest way to fill this in? I don't have much experience of this sort of thing beyond polyfilla for some holes in the wall.

Thanks

That's a fair old gap you have there, and it's a bit awkward to solve....however, I'd go for car body filler which is mixed in two parts - it sets in 15 min rock hard.
It's dead easy to smooth before it sets, and sands beautifully - but you may have to take the switches off again if you need to do this.

Fill around the gaps and overlap the metal box slightly all round. When the filler is dry, sand flat, then carefully cut the overlapping filler flush with the box using a Stanley knife.
