Fishing advice

(LMB has no time for me, but I understand why).

Not true, we fell out once that's all. I told you this before soggy.

Anyway,
Martian could spend 3 hours in the biggest fishing tackle shop in the country.

His shopping trolley would still be full to the brim with **** all.

Yes I agree LMB. He'll never fish. More inane rubbish from the forum moaner. I'd gladly have him down here to fish with me though..... with all his new tackle. No frisky times though!

Oh, and I hate cats (the feline ones), incase you thought I fished for the feral 4 legged variety. ;)

Lol, you lot are funny.

Dubya, I thought you we're starting to get a bit too friendly there for a minute...

I have an urge from my childhood to get out there on the riverbank, what are the fishing seasons?

The Scottish lock thing is from hiring a boat and sailing over them.... would be great to sit on the bank of a loch and fish...

And isn't Loch Ness about 500 ft deep? A bit scary if you think about it when you're in a boat in the middle...

(oh and dubya, martian was the moaner, Somby's the smiley one!!)

Rivers are still June 16th till March 15th.

Everything else is open all year, unless the 'water' has its own rules on when you can fish. Personally, I wont fish when they are spawning though.

Got any gear yet?

What on Earth are you planning to catch on a water with a depth of 500ft? 30lb carp swim our local canal with a depth of 3 foot in the margins. Mind you, with their bellies touching the bottom, their barely 12 inches below the surface, and are a foot wide. Mahoosive beasts though, and I've never caught a 30lb carp. Did catch a 36lb pike a couple of years back though, and the big cat in Spain. Be glad to take you if you wanna come down, or meet you in Spain as I said. I'll not be around here from the end of the month for a good while, so grab your chance! ;)

Dubya, this is a family thing I'm picking up on.. and the Scottish loch is purely based on a recent boating holiday...

I might not even like fishing, but it seems like a good thing to get my boys into.

Its a genuine offer Immy. I'm 100 odd miles south of you. PM me with what gear you need, and I'll tell you where to get it. Bring your children, and Ill sort the rest. Ill guarantee Carp into low 20's, tench over 5lb and Cats above 50lb if you have the gear for them.

Have you tried it yet?

I spent all yesterday at the side of a local lodge & loved it and had 2 firsts.

First time I successfully used pellets on the hook and first time I used a pole to catch a fish. I can see the attraction to them.

Unfortunately the heavens opened and rain stopped play.

Fishing certainly sounds exciting!

Still, much better than football I suppose.

Until you get a fish on its not, its boring.

But once your on then its a fight, a struggle to land the fish without your line breaking or the fish coming off the hook.

Some (Carp/Bream) can give a very strong fight and just before you get it into the net - it can be off.

That's the challenge.

After the other challenge of enticing it onto your hook :)

Of course, most fisheries have banned keep nets.

Only the eastern Europeans take them home to eat.

I read somewhere that fish do not feel pain as they do not have the nerve receptors or something.

A bream is more like a dustbin lid in the water, carp however will make a run for it and it can be quite a fight. Especially when the fish is 10lb and your hook length/line is only 3lb.

I can't believe they have no nerve receptors in their mouths. If not, how would they know whether they have taken food into their mouths and it's time to swallow?

Poor fish. :(
