Fitting a blanking plate

If it was a metal back box .
Then if only ONE earth wire, this would have been better parked up in the Earth terminal on the metal box.

If the ONE earth wire was just a link coming off the metal box, then leave as you have done, in a connector block.

I want to use a blanking plate as the socket is in my young daughter's bedroom and one day we might want to re-instate the plug point.

If it's just to prevent children poking thinging into the socket, Did you know you can get plastic caps which just push into the socket to make it safe for kids

Just the opposite. The sockets are perfectly safe till someone provides an ideal tool for the kids to use to open the safety shutters. These stupid plastic things should be banned!

Holy thread resurrection I know, but I now find myself in the same position as the original poster.
I've discovered an old electrical socket behind a removed radiator. It didn't appear to be live, but I'm taking no chances and blanking it off.
I've screwed wires down in a terminal block, taped it up, and fitted a blanking plate.
From the photos, does it look ok? I'd really appreciate thoughts from any experienced sparkies.

Should be ok. I don't like terminal blocks if they cannot be accessed so would have used a maintenance free terminals there.

You say it doesn't 'appear' to be live. Did you test it?

No it isn't OK. You haven't earthed the exposed conductive parts.

That's not being picky. It's bloody important for leaving it safe.

Thanks folks. I did test the socket (by plugging in a hoover) and it didn't turn on. So I'm assuming it isn't live. (I did however cut all power before fiddling with the wires.)
What's the best way of sleeving the earth wire? If you can see, it just comes bare out of the main cable (without its own sleeve).

nobody mentioned ring continuity?

is this socket part of the ring?
if it is then you need to connect the 2 reds together, the 2 blacks and the 2 ( or 3 ) earths together..
