I have changed the wire back so black is back in the power side of the switch

The wiring looks OK for a Single Chanel Hive. When heating is required the wires in the top two boiler terminals are electrically connected together by the Hive, via terminal 1 & 3 (as shown by the link below which the thermostat replaces) so it doesn't matter which way around they go.

I can't see where N and L are connected from your photo, but assume to N and L

With most boilers the inbuilt timer has to be permanently 'on' when Hive is fitted so that it doesn't override the Hive. I have come across one or two that are wired differently internally. What happens if the inbuilt timer is set to be permanently 'off'?

Not sure what you are referring to by 'power side of the switch'

When the in built time is on the boiler fires up with out the hive being on .and I have tried this with out the link wire in and it still fires up.and when when it's off it does not fire up

With the timer in the off position it will not come on.and if it's in the on position without the Hive being switched on the boiler will still fire up

Have you tried the timer in the middle for timed periods?

Yes have tried that as well it does not come on in the middle.its like the timer is wired to work all the time .have even tried taking the to wires out for loop on the boiler and it still comes on when you switch to on position.

Sounds like a faulty time clock then. Did it work previously? That said, it should still knock off with the Hive. Do you have any voltage testing equipment?

The time clock is working fine as far as I know it turns the heating on and off when you switch it up and down on the clock .and it works on the timer as well

With the Hive removed from the backplate, does the heating go off?
And if you temporarily connect the grey and black at the back plate, does the heating go on?
If so, as above, this would suggest a faulty Hive receiver.

OK thanks for trying. That's usually how it is with the majority of boilers. The timeswitch needs to be permanently 'on' and the Hive will take over all control functions. I just wanted to check it wasn't wired the other way around

have even tried taking the to wires out for loop on the boiler and it still comes on when you switch to on position.

If you mean by that, you have taken these two wires from the Hive terminals 1 & 3 out....

.......left the terminals empty and the boiler still fires up the central heating, then the problem is not with the Hive as you have removed its control from the boiler.

With the hive off the heating still works even if the loop is not in .the heating dose not come on with the hive connected .I took the wires out of the loop and the heating still comes on .if you remove the hive from the backplate .the heating still works if you turn the switch to the on position.yes if you take the two wires out it still works
